Quick guide to home appliance warranty insurance

Whether you have purchased a new oven, washing machine or dishwasher it will come with a guarantee. However, the typical guarantee is only for one year. When this time is up, you are on your own in relation to paying for repairs or replacements, if something goes wrong.

If you purchase a second hand appliance less than 8 years old, you don’t typically have the luxury of a guarantee.

That is unless you take out extended appliance warranty insurance from KAPUT. If you are unsure about the benefits check out our guide.

Quick tips

Here are some quick tips and pointers about our warranty insurance:

  • you will not have to pay out excess if a claim is made;
  • a policy typically covers electrical or mechanical failure, parts, call out charges and labour costs;
  • you typically save money if you insure more than one appliance;
  • protection is more transparent as you may check the terms and conditions to ensure the policy is suitable;
  • protection continues providing you maintain the premiums, up to the appliance being eight years old;
  • you can make a claim easily by calling a Freephone number;
  • typically call outs to an appliance covered are unlimited providing you continue to maintain the premiums.

Choices for purchasing an extended warranty

There is little doubt that when you get to the till to pay for your purchase of an appliance you are going to be given the hard-sell about taking out extended appliance warranty insurance. You may or may not want cover, however, if you do, you have choices of where to buy it. You do not have to take it out there and then with the shop you purchased the appliance. You may purchase a policy with a standalone provider.

In fact this way you may get insurance that is typically more transparent, more competitively priced and with features that are more comprehensive.

New and old appliances are protected

The price tags on large appliances such as washing machines and fridge freezers are high, and due to this fact some people purchase used appliances. However, not all insurance providers offering extended warranty insurance cover on second hand appliances. This isn’t the case here, this means that items are protected regardless of whether you have the receipt or not, up to the maximum age stated on the policy. This is great if you have moved home and inherited lots of domestic appliances or have bought a second hand appliance off Ebay, for example.

Being able to take out warranty insurance on a used appliance provides enormous peace of mind. This is due to the fact that the older the appliance is, generally, the more the chance of it breaking down.
