Insurance for second hand appliances
There is a thriving market in used or second hand domestic appliances. If you need any convincing, just take a look at websites such as Preloved, eBay, GumTree, any number of social media sites, or even that favourite for wanted and unwanted items in the classified ads of your local newspaper.
There is very good reason for that abiding interest in the purchase of second hand domestic appliances – there are money saving bargains to be had for items which still have many years of useful working life left in them.
If you have an eye on a bargain – or perhaps you have recently come into a property that is already equipped with various appliances of one kind or another – you might want to tap into that extended lifespan of items which have been preowned, used, and might still work perfectly well for a good number of years to come.
The potential downside is that you are uncertain as to just what you are buying. It might be working when you buy it, but how soon might it go wrong?
This means choosing your marketplace with some care. Some may prove more reliable than others, and those with photographs of the item in question are likely to be a safer bet. Your selection is likely to come down to a fair bit of judgement, common sense – or simple good luck.
Unlike the appliance which you buy new, there is no manufacturer’s warranty on a second hand appliance.
Insure second hand appliances
Although the manufacturer’s warranty is probably long out of date when you are buying second hand, the alternative is to arrange your own, entirely standalone insurance.
At KAPUT Insurance, we help take the uncertainty out of buying your domestic appliances second hand. We ask for no proof of purchase, and provided the appliance is less than 8 years old, we are typically able to arrange cover against its breakdown or failure.
How does it work?
Insure your second hand appliances with us (up to ten of them may be included under the same policy) and if any one of them goes KAPUT, you may sit back and relax in the knowledge that just one simple phone call, prompts a visit to your home by a fully trained and qualified engineer who has the knowledge and skills to fix it.
You don’t pay for the call out, you don’t pay for the engineer’s labour, you don’t pay for any replacement parts, and you don’t even pay an excess on the insurance claim you are making.
If the appliance proves to be beyond repair, we even make a contribution to your purchase of a replacement.
Group together all your second hand appliance under the one policy, or include a mixture of new and second hand, and you stand to enjoy attractive discounts on the overall cost of the cover for each item. Choose to pay for a full 12 months cover in one go, and you make further savings by paying for just 10 months of premiums.
In a press release we issued earlier this year KAPUT warned that as many as 70% of consumers failed to appreciate the way in which warranty insurance works and that the age group most likely to have this gap in their knowledge are 45 to 54 year olds.
